LGC Awards 2013: tell your story

  • Comment

In 1996, we launched the LGC Awards as a new way to recognise achievement and celebrate the very best in local government.

Today, the awards are more important than ever and I am proud to continue to support councils and their successes.

Sixteen years on, we are launching the 2013 awards and, as ever, we will be introducing new elements to ensure that the awards not only recognise achievement but also help to share best practice.

Last year’s live judging saw contenders for the council of the year and most improved categories make final presentations to the judges in front of an audience. It offered a unique insight into the finalists’ achievements.

This year, the daytime LGC Awards Live event will once again showcase the live judging and offer the opportunity to hear from previous winners and judges before the award ceremony in the evening.

New for 2013, we will also be introducing rapporteurs for every category, ensuring that all shortlisted councils will receive valuable feedback and that learning is shared more widely.

We will also be extending the live judging to other categories. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to present to the judges, to watch presentations from other finalists in their category, and to network with peers.

This unique approach is part of what makes the LGC Awards so special - and why it means so much to reach the shortlist and to win.

I look forward to reading your entries.

Emma Maier, editor, LGC
