Yotta's asset survey technology provides Derbyshire with smart decision making.

Leamington Spa, UK, 24 September 2008 – Derbyshire County Council has awarded Yotta, the 3D mapping division of OMG plc (Oxford Metrics Group LSE: OMG), with a contract for a full inventory survey worth up to £300k over 5 years.

The survey is  one of the largest performed in the UK and will be done using Yotta's unique vehicle-based digital asset capture technique to collect data about all highway inventory from 5,000km of Derbyshire's highway network.

Derbyshire is a forward looking authority with the aim of delivering smarter decision making.

They have picked up on the Department for Transport recommendations for Asset Management and are now pushing forward with their programme to embed Asset Management practices within the council.

The survey will provide Derbyshire with up-to-date, digitally mapped information about its entire asset inventory and the condition of various items.

This will enable the council to develop a more cost-effective management scheme for each of the assets making up the entire highway and enable them to get more value from the highways maintenance budget.

For the survey, Yotta will use its specially designed and developed Y270 vehicle equipped with six high-definition cameras that give a detailed street-level view of the highway.

The cameras take an image every 2 metres as the vehicle drives along, with the precise position (less than 1m) of each image calculated by combining GPS, Inertial and Optical tracking systems with advanced algorithms.

These images are processed by Yotta's proprietary software which analyses them pixel-by-pixel to give a highly accurate position and detailed information of each inventory item seen by the cameras on the survey.
