Cheltenham BC is suing Rhondda Cynon Taff CBC over a job reference it gave for former managing director Christine Laird.

Cheltenham is taking action to recover court costs incurred defending and fighting legal battles with Ms Laird.

Ms Laird was suspended on full pay in June 2004 after a series of disputes with leader Andrew McKinlay (Lib Dem). She was sacked 10 months later.

Cheltenham alleges the Welsh authority gave a "negligent mis-statement" over Ms Laird and is also seeking damages from her.

Rhondda said: "We are aware of this but we can't comment."

The case is scheduled for a procedural hearing in the High Court on 2 July.
