Just when you thought office jargon couldn't get any worse, along comes 'a bite of the reality sandwich'.
Recruitment firm Office Angels ran another survey and found that new and ever more terrifying examples of jargon continue to clog communication channels between apparently normal human beings. For instance, 'a bite of the reality sandwich' — a nugget of sheer meaninglessness.
Office smart Alecs can now brandish the phrase if colleagues are coming up with fanciful ideas like suggesting that everyone goes home at five o'clock.
Is this a mutation of office jargon with an ironic nod toward David Brent? Does anyone seriously think their workmates need to take a bite of such a sandwich?
If said workmates aren't in touch with reality, might they be so far gone as to think it's okay for someone in their general vicinity to use this expression? Has anyone ever been told to take a bite of the reality sandwich and found that their performance at work has improved as a result? Or has the use of this phrase ever sparked an outbreak of desk rage resulting in physical injury?
These are questions which are bordering on the metaphysical, and anyone who has time to think about such matters clearly isn't prioritising their workload properly. Take a bite out of your own personal reality sandwich and check that 'to do' list now.
