Solihull MBC has named Mark Rogers as its chief executive.
Mr Rogers, who first joined the council in 2006 as corporate director of education and children's services, has been acting chief executive since September last year.
Previously he was assistant director for inclusive communities at Stockport MBC and prior to that he was headteacher in a special needs school for Tameside MBC.
'Clear vision'
Mr Rogers said the council "has a clear vision of where it needs to go to give its residents the best possible opportunities and a high quality of life".
He added: "I will be working closely with councillors, partners and our communities to ensure that we deliver our vision and invest in the future for everyone who lives, visits, and works in Solihull."
Former chief executive Katherine Kerswell left last September.
