Eaton wins local government crown

Margaret Eaton is the new chairman of the Local Government Association.
Cllr Eaton won a vote of Conservative council leaders and group leaders to be the party's nominee to fill the slot left vacant by Sir Simon Milton.
She was later confirmed at a meeting of the LGA Executive.
Bradford MBC councillor Eaton romped home with a clear majority, taking 57% of the votes.
Her nearest challenger, Oxfordshire CC leader Keith Mitchell took 24%. Tandridge DC leader Gordon Keymer took third place with 10% of the vote. Lee Martin, Conservative group leader on Sunderland City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader Stephen Parnaby were fourth and fifth respectively.
As well as being a former vice chairman of the LGA and leader of the association's Conservative group, Cllr Eaton is also a former chair of the Conservative Councillors Association.
