HERITAGE ROLE FOR LGA CHAIRMAN

""

The Local Government Association's outgoing chairman Lord Bruce-Lockhart has been appointed chair of English Heritage.

Lord Bruce-Lockhart, the LGA's first Conservative chairman, will take up the part-time £45,000 post in August, a month after his three-year stint at the helm of local government draws to a close.

'I am particularly pleased because I think it is a lovely job,' he told LGC. 'Our heritage has an incredibly important role for people.' The 65-year-old has always had a keen interest in heritage, serving as a trustee of the Leeds Castle Foundation and as chairman of Rochester Cathedral Council.

The former leader of Kent CC will take over from Sir Neil Cossons.
