Bristol chief to retire
The chief executive of Bristol City Council is to retire with almost immediate effect, it has been announced.
Jan Ormondroyd, below, is to leave her post at the end of this month in order to spend more time with her family after her partner was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Announcing the news on Monday, the council said no decision would be made about whether or not to recruit a permanent replacement until the mayoral election had taken place in November.
Interim arrangements are due to be announced next week and are expected to last until Christmas at least, a spokeswoman said. The interim salary has been set at £150,000 which the council was said was “more in line with current market conditions” than the current £189,000 salary level.
Leader Simon Cook (Lib Dem) said: “Jan Ormondroyd has shown immense professionalism and dedication throughout her four and a half years as chief executive. The council is a leaner, better-run organisation due to her energy, commitment and hard-work.”
He added: “I shall miss her calm wisdom and counsel immensely, and wish her and her family well for the future, at this difficult time.”
