Six in running for Council of the Year
Six finalists have been chosen to compete for Council of the Year, the leading category in the LGC 2011 Awards.
Winners will be named in a ceremony on 23 March at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. A full list of finalists, chosen from 483 entries, appears on on the right.
Contenders are: Blackburn with Darwen BC, Fenland DC, Southend-on-Sea BC, Teignbridge DC, Wakefield MDC and Westminster City Council.
The other categories include: most improved council; children’s services; economic development; efficiency; finance team; health and social care; innovation; IT initiative; legal; low carbon; management team; ; public/private partnerships; and workforce.
LGC editor Emma Maier said: “The judges were greatly impressed by how, even in challenging financial circumstances, councils are going beyond the call of duty to improve their performance and their residents’ lives.”
