Somerset launches YouTube channel

Somerset County Council has launched its own YouTube channel with the first video starring the council mascot, Sparky.

The ‘Enter The Dragon’ video follows Sparky on a day out around Somerset using some of the services provided by the council, including the Taunton Flyer - Taunton’s park and ride bus, and visiting Glastonbury Rural Life Museum and Bridgwater Library.

The video also shows children from a primary school in Taunton.

As part of Somerset County Council’s commitment to public engagement, videos will be regularly posted on the YouTube site detailing council news, information and events.

Somerset County Councillor Alvin Horsfall, portfolio holder for communications and marketing, said: “By having a greater web presence we hope to make it easier for a wider audience to find out about what Somerset County Council is involved in and what services we provide.”

Access and Communications Manager, Robert Gunning, said: “The first video, ‘Enter The Dragon’, is a light-hearted look at Somerset County Council services which people will find informative and entertaining.

"The video also highlights Somerset County Council’s message of ‘Providing For Life’, which is at the heart of recent campaign work focusing on letting the public know about the breadth of services we provide as a local authority.”
