Labour has unveiled a budget which council see council tax bills at Wolverhampton MBC rise by almost 20%, reports The Birmingham Post (p4).

The 1997/98 budget will involve£20m cuts over the next two years and between 750-1,000 job losses.

Labour blames the council tax rise, which leader Norman Davies told the paper was 'horrendous', on a government funding cut of£10m.

The Birmingham Post asks in a news feature (p10) how important council tax will play in a general election.
