The flow of national lottery cash to local arts groups was welcomed today by Scottish arts minister Lord Lindsay, as nearly £2 million pounds was distributed by the Scottish Arts Council.

'Much attention has focused on the large awards to prestige projects, but local groups should feel encouraged by today's announcement to bid for funds,' Lord Lindsay said.

'I welcome the practice of the Scottish Arts Council to distribute these lottery awards over a wide geographical spread and to all kinds of projects, large and small. I was particularly heartened to see items which will be of special benefit to people with disabilities and those in hospital.'

This latest round of awards brings the total lottery cash injection into the arts in Scotland to £4.5mi since April this year.
