A grant of £30,000 to the Centre for the Study of the Child and Society, Glasgow University was announced today by social work minister James Douglas-Hamilton.

The grant of £10,000 per annum for three years commencing April 1, 1997 is to secure the future of the Advanced Certificate in Residential Child Care Course.

The course was previously funded jointly by the University of Glasgow and by Strathclyde Region.

Announcing details of the award Lord James said: 'The Advanced Certificate in Residential Child Care Course is the only post qualifying programme of its kind in Scotland for residential workers. I am pleased to be able to offer assistance to enable the course to continue until alternative sources of funding are secured.'
