A £45 million plan to regenerate the economy of the Monklands DC area was unveiled yesterday, the Herald reports (page 8). The Lanarkshire towns of Airdrie and Coatbridge - subjected to publicity with earlier this year with claims of biased spending - are scheduled for major investment.

More than 40 projects are to be tackled over three years with private sector support including more private houses, industrial workshops, business park offices and extra tourist attractions. The scheme will be run by Monklands Partnership, one of whose members is Monklands DC.
