Birmingham city council's search for£33m in budget cuts may be eased by the sale of West Midlands councils' stake in the city's airport, reports The Birmingham Post (p3).

Birmingham city's slice of the airport sale could be worth£5m, says the paper. The council is meeting today to consider ways to balance its books for the 1997/98 budget.

The council plans to increase council tax bills by 6 per cent.
