Greater Manchester Police have so far named seven local authorities which are affected by the force's forthcoming Operation Cleopatra child abuse investigation, reports The Independent (p4).

The investigation, which has come out of the Cheshire, North Wales, and Merseyside child abuse inquiries, will go back up to 40 years, and is already investigating 48 complaints involving children aged between 11 and 18.

Stockport MBC is one of the councils included in the inquiry. Bob Lewis, Stockport's director of social services, said: 'I hope that the culture of children's homes will have changed.

'We now have a series of guidelines and reports which give clear guidance on recruitment and minitoring at children's homes.'
