County chief leaves just six months after appointment

Lincolnshire CC chief executive Keith Ireland is to leave the council six months after being appointed due to differences of opinion with leader Martin Hill (Con).

In a joint statement to staff today, Mr Ireland and Cllr Hill said: “Over the last few months, it has become clear that we do not share the same approach to a number of important issues that are facing the council, and, in these circumstances, we are agreed that a parting of the ways is the best way forward for both of us.

“Whilst unfortunately things have not worked out, we are united in wishing each other the very best for the future.”

Cllr Hill added his thanks for the “energy” Mr Ireland had brought to the role.

Mr Ireland joined Lincolnshire in May from Wolverhampton City Council, where he was managing director.

  • Yet another example where elected(being elected does not make one competent) members are increasingly omnipotent.Perhaps Lincolnshire ought to to look at other shire counties where the chickens are coming home to roost-short term unwise council tax freezes with medium term consequences-professional and competent advice being ignored-the mistake of allowing the strong leader and cabinet system becoming more and more apparent

  • it would be interesting to know the terms of the exit deal. Officers advise and members decide, unlessyou are being asked to do something unethical the officer should have no problem, maybe some members cant even take advise they dont agree with.

  • I wonder if the chef exec is being paid money to leave early and will this happen whilst they tell staff they need to do all they can to save money? That has happened elsewhere.

It doesn't give staff much motivation to save money.
