Tax payers are paying nearly £3m a day on temporary accomodation for the homeless while nearly a million homes are empty, the Daily Express reports (p17).

According to a survey carried out by the paper, there are 765,000 empty private homes in the country, even though 140,000 families a year are added to the homeless registers.
