A man who has angered his fellow residents by running up a bill of thousands of pounds at his Oxfordshire town council has defended his actions, reports BBC Thames Valley FM.

In four years David Whittaker launched 95 complaints against Farringdon Town Council, only 12 of which resulted in the auditor making recommendations.

Councillors claim these cost more than £16,000, but Mr Whittaker says that making a nuisance of himself was the only way to get councillors to listen to him.

He commented: 'If you buy something or acquire something with a cost and you don't make use of what you get from that money, then of course it's a waste of money.

'But if the council were to learn from what the auditor has told them then someone might consider it to be a good use of money'.
