Aberdeen City Council is considering a plan under which staff could be paid to walk to appointments instead of using cars.

The Scotsman (p6) reports that the council will also consider whether to increase a cycling mileage allowance in line with that paid to motorists on official business.

Peter Cockhead, the council's director of planning, said yesterday: 'We are flagging up a whole series of options to encourage people to travel green and to cut down on congestion on our roads and we feel that the council should take a lead in that direction.'
