Aberdeenshire Council is planning to join forces with a private company in a plan to build new headquarters for up to 500 members of staff.

The Press and Journal reports that Aberdeenshire is the only local authority which does not have an HQ in its own area, and this week will advertise for suggestions of partnership deals from development companies and other organisations.

A spokeswoman for the authority said Aberdeenshire was open to suggestions - a new base could be created in an existing building or new office space could be built.

The council convener, Colin Millar, said: 'We are seeking a building spec which will strengthen the identity of Aberdeenshire Council but which will also be a versatile, energy efficient, purpose-built facility, making best use of the limited capital resources available to us.'
