Two SNP members of Aberdeenshire council have been charged in a police investigation into alleged expenses irregularities, reports the Financial Times (p8).

Brian Topping and Ian Tait were detained by police and later released. They face suspension from the SNP group pending the outcome of any proceedings agains them.

George Barnes, leader of the SNP group on the council, told the paper that he would use a group meeting today to recommend both councillors be suspended until the outcome of the proceedings was known. 'This of course implies no presumption of guilt,' he said.
