Academics from London University's Institute of Education will this week launch a scathing attack on an Ofsted report which blamed poor teaching methods on poor reading standards in inner city schools.

The detailed analysis will call the findings of original report, published in May, 'highly dubious' and 'largely invalid'.

It will also criticise the use to tests in three of London's poorest boroughs - Southwark, Islington and Tower Hamlets, to draw conclusions about how reading should be taught across the country.
