The Association of County Councils, English Nature and the Countryside Council for Wales have joined forces in a bid to encourage nature conservation.

In a joint statement signed today, the three bodies pledge to co-operate on implementing nature conservation policies that are 'environmentally, economically and socially sustainable'.

The ACC is to encourage its members to adopt working policies that benefit nature conservation. For example, counties can ensure they buy goods and services which do not damage the environment.

Counties will receive practical advice from all three bodies on how to set up these policies and how to educate the public about conservation.
