Legal action is being taken to ban former tenants from reoccupying the Scarborough hostel in which a woman and a child died in a fire, until it is made safe, reports the Yorkshire Post (p9).

The move by Scarborough BC follows reports that some former residents had gone back into the damaged premises just days after the blaze.

Meanwhile, staff at the social services and housing departments, the benefits agency and voluntary organisations have been praised in an initial report into the blaze for their prompt help in the major rehousing operation following the tragedy.
