The ADC is to host a conference on changes in emergency planning and the government's policy towards it.

Recent floods which wrecked havoc across the country put scores of councils on red alert and was, say the ADC, evidence of the vital role they play in dealing with disasters and coping with chaos.

The conference, to be held on 28 March, will focus on the current debate about the effect of the local government review on emergency planning, to ensure that the shake-up does not interfere with authorities ability to co-ordinate emergency services for major operations.
