The debate for creating unitary councils out of some of Britain's medium sized cities is carried in The Guardian Society section (p9).

Towns such as Nottingham, Derby, Bristol and Leicester are all campaigning to be given the right to control their own future.

Association of District Councils chair Margaret Singh is quoted as saying the Local Government Commission is guilty of inconsistency during the review and that the ADC will continue to lobby for more unitary councils, the paper reports.
