An additional £1 million for speech therapy provision for children with Records of Needs was announced today by Lord James Douglas-Hamilton MP, Minister for Education at The Scottish Office.

The increase brings the 1994-95 local government settlement for speech therapy provision to £3 million, and follows discussions with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities. Education authorities will use the funds to contract directly with health boards for speech therapy provision.

Lord James announced the additional funds in response to a parliamentary question from Mr Brian Wilson MP (Cunninghame North).
