Business services provider Capita Group is strengthening its position in the payroll and pensions administration market with the acquisition of Datapay Payroll Business.

The specialist provider of payroll processing is being bought from IBM UK for£9.3 million. In 1996 Datapay made operating profits of£775,000 on income of£6.96m.

Capita reported pre-tax profits up from£4.59m to£7.06m for the first six months of this year. Turnover rose by 58% to£79.1m.
