Tameside MBC environmental health chiefs have joined international colleagues for a 'ground-breaking' conference in Zimbabwe to guide officals and African industry towards sustainable development, the Manchester Evening News reports (p20).

The three-day conference is being held in Tameside's twin town of Mutare and brings together experts in waste disposal and air pollution.

Also involved are colleagues from the borough's other twin town of Haarlem in the Netherlands and its counterpart Svetla, in the Czech Republic.

Since 1989 Tameside has developed strong links with Mutare, providing office equipment and even a fire engine for the city, while 15 Tameside schools have links with Zimbabwe.
