The five host boroughs for the 2012 Olympic Games have named the man who will be making sure Londoners feel the full benefits of the event.

In his executive director role Eryl Smith will be responsible for co-ordinating the programme across Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

He will be managing joint projects for the councils such as their employment and training initiatives, which hope to increase opportunities for local businesses and people.

Between 1997 and 2002 Mr Smith was managing director for the Terminal 5 project at Heathrow Airport.
