Decisions on how the privatisation of Birmingham Airport will be carried out will probably be delayed until at least the second half of this year, reports The Birmingham Post (p7).

It is understood that advisers think there is no point in rushing ahead with the privatisation process when a planning application for expansion of both terminals is to be considered by Solihull MBC this summer.

The seven councils who own the airport are being forced by government rules on local authority borrowing to sell of at least 51% of their ownership to allow them enough money to fund a £400m expansion planned for the next 10 years.

The airport's advisers BZW are negotiating with three companies over the sale including US giant Lockheed.
