Alan Beith, LibDem MP, is to adopt an energy conservation bill as his Private Member's Bill. Mr Beith was drawn second in the ballot for the Bills and his Bill will therefore have a good chance of becoming law.

Among his supporters for the Bill are union Unison.

Mr Beith said the Bill aims to put an end to the astonishing lack of information on the energy efficiency of the UK housing stock. It would require each local authority to conduct an energy audit of the housing in its area, both public and private, and draw up a local energy conservation plan.
