The Association of Metropolitan Authorities has called for self governing schools that co-opted council representatives and brought admission policies into line with neighbouring schools, to be allowed to come back under local authority control, The Guardian reports (p10).

AMA leaders says many schools have expressed an interest in returning to council control as the initial extra cash allocations have been cut.

The AMA also says that a new common funding formula should be worked out, to allow deals and negotiation to take the place of lengthy new legislation, the paper reports.
