Britain's education leaders have agreed to back the Daily Mirror's knife amnesty by placing posters in schools urging pupils to turn in weapons to police stations, the paper reports (p2).

Graham Lane, the Association of Metropolitan Authorities education chair says new laws are needed to curb the sale of knives in the wake of the killing of headteacher Philip Lawrence, reports the Mirror.

'We need to look at proposals we can put to the Home Office limiting the availability of knives. The Mirror's amnesty is a great step forward in the right direction but we need to do more - perhaps issued knife licenses to restrict sales.'
