The Association of Metropolitan Authorities has attacked the Sport Council's decision not to fund children's play projects from the proceeds of the national lottery.

'This means none of the lottery bodies will have a direct responsibility for children's play. Instead it will be passed around like an unwanted parcel,' said Peter Bilson, chair of the AMA's community development policy group.

The AMA wants projects such as adventure playgrounds to be funded by lottery money.

'The Department of National Heritage must act quickly to ensure that children's play is not left out in the cold when lottery proceeds are handed out,' Mr Bilson said.
