Conservationists and local councils have warned of an environmental disaster if the government goes ahead with plans to build more homes in the Midlands, reports The Birmingham Post (p18).

The DoE is due to publish its long-awaited discussion document, titled 'The West Midlands Regional Planning Guidance', outlining how the authorities should tackle housing, planning, environmental, transport and economic matters until the year 2011.

Yesterday, The Birmingham Post revealed that 275,000 houses across the region will be built by 2011.
