An MP has attacked Staffordshire CC for its refusal to put British beef back on school menus, reports The Birmingham Post (p5).

Bill Cash, the Conservative MP for Stone, said he was astonished the council had continued to keep British beef off the menu.

'British beef is among the safetest in the world. To obtain the partial lifting of the beef export ban, enormously stringent conditions have had to be met,' he said.

But a spokesman for the council said the authority was not refusing to serve beef. 'In May we sent out a survey to 430 schools asking if they wanted beef put back on the menu. We are waiting for these to be returned and if it transpires that schools do want to serve beef, there is every chance it will be back on the menu after the autumn half-term,' he said.
