The director of housing with Isle of Anglesey CC has been dismissed following criticism from the district auditor, reported The Daily Post (23 Oct, p12).

John Arthur Jones, who is also facing certain criminal charges, had been suspended without prejudice by the council just over a year ago after being arrested.

He was officially told of the council's decision in a letter from the acting chief executive Lionel Gardner.

Mr Jones said: 'Obviously at this stage I can't say too much but I am very shocked and surprised. This is now with my solicitor who I understand has already made contact with the council. I intend fighting this and am absolutely determined to clear my name.'

Mr Jones was director of housing with the former Ynys Mon BC and took on the role of director of housing and property with the council council when local government was last reorganised two two-and-a-half years ago.
