An independent member of Isle of Anglesey CC has pleaded guilty to six charges of obtaining property by deception and three of false accounting, reports The Daily Post (p1).

Derlwyn Rees Hughes was told by Llangefni magistrates he could go to prison for swindling two organisations, Urdd Gobaith Cymru and the Welsh Sports Council.

He was bailed until 28 June for reports. The prosecution and defence will present their cases in full at the next hearing.

Yesterday a spokesman for the council said there would be no immediate decision over Mr Hughes' disqualification from the council. 'There are certain regulations governing disqualification which have to await the court's decision,' he said.
