Derbyshire CC has reacted angrily to the news that the local government commission proposals for the county may be reconsidered.

Council Leader, Michael Doughty, was 'astounded' that the original proposals for the county - two unitary councils with the rest remaining two-tier authorities - may not be final.

Mr Doughty has written to commissioners, Clive Wilkinson and Professor Michael Chisholm, to seek their views on the new circumstances.

Asking districts to submit joint proposals to create more unitary councils flew in the face of the commission's conclusions, said Mr Doughty: 'According to the report '..there is no merger of districts or splitting of the county which would meet with widespread approval''
