Suffolk CC chief executive Lin Homer has been appointed a non-executive member of the Department for Education and Employment management board.
The board meets monthly and leads the work of the department by formulating policy and providing direction on major operational and management issues.
Ms Homer, a lawyer who has been chief executive at Suffolk since 1998, said:
'Education and employment are two of the most challenging agendas around.'
