Lord Archer has been accused by the Labour party of using his private money to sidestep rules on election expenditure and try to convince voters that he should be London's elected mayor, according to the Independent on Sunday (p1).

Lord Archer has sent a mailshot to 4,000 schools in the capital together with a copy of his unofficial manifesto, A Better Deal for London.

The mailing is not covered by spending rules because the election has not yet been called.
