The Express (October 2, p9) reported that Jeffrey Archer has won the Conservative nomination to stand as the party's candidate for London mayor.

He beat rival Steven Norris by a majority of about two-to-one in a poll of London Tories.

The Times (October 2, p9) reported that Jeffrey Archer's selection had

already hit controversy, after complaints alleging that he may have used inside campaign information in breach of party rules. The paper said that Steven Norris had acted on reports that Mr Archer had employed a Conservative Central Office official with access to membership data and addresses.
