Building new towns on disused sites owned by the ministry of defence is becoming increasingly likely despite opposition from local authorities as UK regions struggle to find space for government housing allocations, reports The Guardian (p9).

Cambridgeshire CC supervises the fastest growing county in the UK, with population levels expected to increase by 60% to 812,000 by 2016, and councillors are expected to test whether the government's brownfield policy holds for MoD sites when they meet to discuss the housing crisis next month.
