Argyll and Bute DC is considering a request for the late Labour leader John Smith to be buried on the Scottish island of Iona, reports The Scotsman (p1).

The island is the ancient resting place of Scottish kings. The council has been asked if Mr Smith could be buried at Reilig Odhrain, beside the mythical burial place of Macbeth.
