Assaults on staff in retirement homes and geriatric wards are on the increase, according to a survey of 204 employees in the Bristol area, The Times reports (p11).

The study, conducted by Bristol University and published in the British Medical Journal, found that 31 staff had suffered serious assault by patients while in their present post. The staff reported 468 assaults in the week of the survey.
