The local authority associations have welcomed the government's decision to allow councils more time for the compulsory tendering of their professional construction related services.

AMA secretary Rodney Brooke, leader of the local authority side of the competition steering group, said: 'We had hoped that the DoE would have recognised the strong arguments for lowering the percentage that will have to be exposed to competition below the 65% now decided upon'.

However, Mr Brooke added that they 'welcome the government's acceptance that authorities need enough time to prepare if CCT is not to become an expensive disaster for all concerned'.
