The Audit Commission's report into the financial efficiency of Britain's town halls, 'Paying the Piper', published yesterday, is examined in The Daily Telegraph (p2).

The commission found that councils could slash at least five per cent from their white collar wage bill, saving £500m a year, without affecting services, the paper reports (see LGC magazine Jan 6, under LGCNet category G).
