A circular from Avon's education department urging schools to `minimise, if not prohibit the selling of home-made food products' was applied with great rigour at one school, which banned home-made cakes from its summer fete, reported the Daily Telegraph (26 August, Parish Pump, Weekend, p28).
A council spokeswoman said the circular was aimed at meat products, not, as interpreted by the Summerhill Junior School in Bristol, at cakes, the Daily Telegraph reported.
